Designing a generator cage

Project Info

Case

Our company was requested for designing a cage for a generator with a breaking box on it. Generator cages are built to protect the generator from unauthorized access, vandalism, theft, etc. and our client needed a strong yet aesthetic design. The size of the box was L=9m, W=1.2m

Requirements

The cage was requested to be strong yet with the minimal weight and easy for the shipment. It was also supposed to be cost-effective

Solution

To fulfill the given requirements, we designed the whole container with I-beams and included 4 hooks around it for the lifting by a crane. Also, based on the calculations on the given size and considering the weight of the generator, we came up with the minimum weight for the cage that could support the generator as well. The design was finally simulated and checked regarding its strength and resistance for any transportation or shipment.

Description

The design was later built and is currently in use by the client.
